ACTS SEVEN
(M.K moves to the stage, adjusting the microphone. Hazeemah stands behind him, prompting him to turn and glance at her.)
M.K: (irritated) Are you blind? Can't you see where your colleagues are seated? Must you follow me everywhere?
(The audience murmurs and chuckles. Hazeemah returns to her seat, joining the others. Titilayo and her group burst into laughter.)
M.K: (clears his throat) Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed colleagues, I am honored to stand before you today as your temporary leader for the next six months. I express my gratitude to each of you for accepting me in this role. Your trust and support mean a great deal to me.
(He pauses for emphasis)
As we move forward, I emphasize the importance of teamwork, dedication, and excellence. Our company's success relies on our collective efforts, and I expect everyone to uphold the highest standards. To achieve this, I introduce the following core values:
- Virtuality: Embracing remote work and digital communication to enhance productivity and flexibility.
- Hard work: Striving for excellence in every task and project.
- Politeness: Maintaining a respectful and courteous attitude towards colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
- Innovation: Encouraging creativity and forward-thinking solutions.
- Accountability: Taking ownership of our actions and responsibilities.
(He gestures to Hazeemah)
To support these values, I introduce my temporary personal assistant. Please, introduce yourself.
(Hazeemah stands, nervous)
Hazeemah: Good morning everyone, I'm honored to stand before you today as the temporary personal assistant to our chairman. My name is Hazeemah Wuraola Nurudeen, and I'm thrilled to work alongside such a talented and dedicated team. Thank you for welcoming me. I look forward to working together to achieve great things.
(Abdullah leads a round of applause as Hazeemah returns to her seat)
M.K: (impatiently) Can we focus, please? Together, let us work towards a brighter future for our company. Thank you for your attention, and I look forward to our collaboration.
(The audience applauds)
M.K: The main purpose of this urgent meeting is to announce the new multi-million contract emerging from a new VIP client abroad. I need your commitment and skills to achieve this goal. I'll start with the architectural team leader and survey leaders. Please, stand.
(Abdullah and Reem stand)
Abdullah and Reem: (in unison) Yes, sir.
Here is the revised version of the play scene with only the English corrected, without removing any statements:
M.K: We want a very conducive environment for the construction of this project. You two have to work as one to give me a better result in two weeks. Is that clear?
Abdullah and Reem: Yes, sir!
M.K: Uhmm... Engineering team?
Mrs. Fashola: (stands) Yes, sir.
M.K: A woman? Is the leader of your team?
Mrs. Fashola: Affirmative, sir.
M.K: (chuckles) Alright then, I want you and your team in my office after this meeting.
Mrs. Fashola: Okay, sir.
M.K: The rest of the team should get prepared, but I will give you your assignment soon. The first team will determine your next assignment. Is that clear?
Audience: Yes, sir.
M.K: H.Z! (looks around, then at Hazeemah) What sort of idiot is this? So you don't know your name again?
Hazeemah: (stands) Sir?
M.K: (tightening his fist) You are pissing me off! If only you know that that thing you are wearing is affecting you mentally. You need to see a psychiatrist. And that will be the best advice you will receive today.
Hazeemah: I'm sorry, sir.
(Employees murmur while some laugh)
M.K: Anyway, guys, that will be the end of the meeting. Thank you. (exits the conference room)
(At M.K's office)
M.K: (seated, leg on desk) You are so full of yourself. Do you know that? You are too big to show me some respect as your boss.
Hazeemah: No, sir.
M.K: (surprised, stands) You are too big to show me respect? If you dare me, I will mess you up! If only you know that I can throw you out of this company.
Hazeemah: (confidently) In what way, sir?
M.K: (anger rising) You know what? You are fired! Get the hell out of my company! Now!
Hazeemah: ( takes few steps closer) fine! I accept being fired by you. I have nothing much to say. But if you continue treating people like shit, like you only matters, like your opinion matters alone, you will be lost for the rest of your life. I know you despise me so much that you wish you could strangle me. But it does nothing to me. So I understand, my fellow brother islam can never treat me harshly because I choose Allah over human. But being fired today means there is something great Allah is planning for me. Something you could never ever lay your hand on. I know my value, and I know my worth. So far, you are not Allah.. every disappointment is a big blessing for me and every Muslims that have faith in Allah. I know I am not perfect, but my imperfections makes me a human just like you, wish also means you are not perfect.. so why do you want me to be perfect. (Takes two steps closer) I am not afraid of you.. being fired today, is not the end of the world.. but I have one more advise for you. Learn to humble yourself and stop feeling like you are on top of the world. You are a spoilt brat and you need to be retrain by your parents. You need help! ( About to take her leave then turn to face him ) one more thing! Mr proud! When next you employ your likeable person, don't you dare yell at them. Because this whole money and being rich stuff.. we are all the same in the front of Allah.
M.k: ( panting heavily in anger) shut the fuck up!.
Hazeemah: ( face him ) don't you ever, I repeat! This should be your last time! You yell at me. Because the next time you try that shit with me! I will not hesitate to show you that I covered my head not my brain. I'm out of here ( walks out of the office in style and slam the door).
M.K: Get back here! I'm not done talking to you! Security!!!
(Reem and the other two team members stand next to the door)
Reem: (with a bright smile) Now that's the confidence we need in this company!
Abdullah: Masha Allah! Wallohi talahi... she's amazing.
Mrs. Fashola: Why do I feel so happy for her, leaving this company instead of feeling bad for her?
Abdullah: Let's go in, guys.
Reem: (stepping backward) I wouldn't.
Mrs. Fashola: Me neither.
(Curtain)
Later in the evening, Reem enters his apartment and throws his bag on the bed.
Reem: What a day! (sighs heavily) What a hell of a day! (thinks about Hazeemah) That girl amazed me. Wow! Now I feel like seeing her every day, but she got fired. Damn! She gives me goosebumps.
(Suddenly hears a knock at the door)
Reem: Who is it? (no response) I said, who is it? (opens the door)
Idayat: Hey, babe.
Reem: Hey. What are you doing here?
Idayat: What am I doing in my boyfriend's house? You must be joking (pushes her bag into his chest and slides in). I've missed you so much.
Reem: Listen, babe, you can't spend the night here.
Idayat: Why not?
Reem: I just don't feel comfortable spending the night with you.
Idayat: Are you being serious? Wait! Are you cheating on me?
Reem: What? No!
Idayat: (picks up a pace, searching his room) Where is she?
Reem: (tiredly stands by the door, waiting for her) Could you just stop being dramatic?
Idayat: Oh! Now I'm dramatic, huh? Are you cheating on me?
Reem: Could you please stop this nonsense and go home? I'm tired already.
Idayat: Well, I'm going nowhere, so do your worst!
Reem: (sighs heavily and falls onto the couch) Uhhhh!
Idayat: So, what would you like to have for dinner?
(Lights fade)
Here is the revised version with corrected English:
THE NEXT MORNING IN THE ROOM
Hajia Shukroh: Dear, what do you think we should do about our daughter? She's draining herself. I barely slept last night seeing her in that state.
Alhaji Nurudeen: You have no idea how worried I am either. Did you see how quiet she was? She couldn't even cry. That's enough to make us worried.
Hajia Shukroh: Let's go and check on her. She failed to interact with me last night, especially. She didn't eat.
Alhaji Nurudeen: She's getting distracted with worldly affairs, despite all my teachings and lectures about trials. Anyway, let's go and check.
Hajia Shukroh: We're human; our minds will surely be shaken sometimes.
Alhaji Nurudeen: I'm not saying we're not, but she should be mature enough to understand better. And you know... I was thinking of finding a suitor for her. All this attitude she's giving, maybe she needs a man in her life. We can't talk to her the way her partner will.
Hajia Shukroh: As if that's how you petted me when I was down. So you've proved that she doesn't need any. Put your suitors aside and let's focus on getting our daughter happy again. Come on! Let's go.
Alhaji Nurudeen: That boss of hers needs to be taught a great lesson. I feel like going there to show him what it takes to be a father.
Hajia Shukroh: I love it when you're like this... You make me want to fall for you again.
Alhaji Nurudeen: (smiling) Really? Oh wait! You didn't love me before?
Hajia Shukroh: No, that's not the point... I...
Alhaji Nurudeen: Never mind! Let's go.
Hajia Shukroh: Don't get me wrong, oh! Please...
Watch out for the next episode!!!
