ENDURING HEART EPISODE SIX

Nusaybah: So now I disgust you again? Haneef! It’s me, o!

Haneef: And so what? Who are you that I can’t talk to that way? Tell me!

Nusaybah: Okay then. Good night. (she climbs the bed and covers herself) May Allah spare our lives till tomorrow.

Haneef: Whatever.

---

(Daybreak – Nusaybah is in the kitchen preparing breakfast)

Nusaybah: (singing Maher Zain’s song) Ya nabi, salam alayka, ya rasool, salam alayka, salawat...

Haneef: (enters the kitchen) All you know is sing, sing, sing. Can’t your brain think of anything reasonable? What kind of wife are you? Tell me!

Nusaybah: (shocked) What did I do this early Monday? (she scans him from head to toe and notices he’s wearing a suit) Where are you going?

Haneef: Since when do you care? I’m out of here. (as he tries to leave, she quickly runs to block his way) What?!

Nusaybah: Please, okomi... why are you treating me like this? Ehn? Can’t you just forget the past? And where are you going, dressed like this?

Haneef: Since you’re curious — I’m heading to the office. Do have a lovely day. (about to leave)

Nusaybah: Please wait. Why are you doing this to me? See how miserable I look right now, just because of how stressed my heart and brain are... You’re still mad at me for losing my virginity before marriage. I’ve asked for your forgiveness so many times, but you keep doing what pleases you. And now you’re going to work during our honeymoon? I’ve been awake since 5:30am, moving up and down after solat, taking care of the house, preparing breakfast for you. And now you’re leaving? What will you even tell people out there? Please... even if you're not happy seeing me under your roof, I promise not to inconvenience you. Please... show me mercy. (she breaks down in tears and gently falls at his feet) Please... have mercy on me...

Haneef: I have nothing to say to you, okay? I’m not hungry and I can’t just sit around doing nothing. I need to keep myself busy... I need fresh air from all of this. Okay fine, I’m not mad at you anymore — I just want space. At least that’s not too much to ask.

Nusaybah: Okay, fine. I promise not to bother you again. But please, at least eat what I prepared for you.

Haneef: (sighs heavily) Fine. Don’t think I’m eating because of you — I just don’t want the food to waste. (he heads to the dining table) Hurry up. I’m late.

Nusaybah: (sadly moves back to the kitchen) I’m coming, sir.

---

(Later — Nusaybah on the phone, crying)

Nusaybah: (crying) Ever since then, he changed. He’s turned me into his enemy... into his rival. He treats me like I’m nothing to him. I swear, I regret the day I said yes to him. I’m so tired of this marriage already.

Sarmoroh: (sighs) This is serious! It’s too early for all this chaos. Why is your husband acting like this? Are you sure of what you’re saying? Because this sounds unbelievable. At least stop crying — tears won’t solve anything right now.

Nusaybah: I don’t even know why this is happening to me… Whoever I offended should please forgive me. This is too much for me to bear so early. I have no one to tell this to except you. What am I going to do? At this stage of marriage? I feel helpless right now. (she breaks down again)

Sarmoroh: Honestly, I’m speechless. I never knew your husband was this cruel. I thought he was a gentle and humble man. Honestly, men are dangerous. If you see a snake and a man at the same time, kill the man and free the snake. I still wonder why men change after marriage — both with virgins and non-virgins. But yours? Yours is both hilarious and pathetic. What are we going to do now?

Nusaybah: I don’t even know, wallahi. I’m so confused.

Sarmoroh: Where is he right now?

Nusaybah: He went to work. He said he can’t stand being in the same house with me.

Sarmoroh: It’s that bad? He left for work during your honeymoon?!

Nusaybah: (wipes her tears) I don’t think he’ll ever touch me or make love to me again. The way he looks at me is unbearable. Wallahi. I need support — words of encouragement — and I have no one to call. Not even my father. Please, can you come over to my place? I need someone to talk to. I’m traumatized.

Sarmoroh: No! I can’t do that. Not in this situation. If I show up at your house and your husband catches me there, things will get worse. He’ll think you’ve started broadcasting your issues to everyone, and that won’t end well. I love you, and I want the best for you. We can only communicate on the phone for now. Even my own marriage isn’t perfect. I’m a mother of four — and psychologically, I can handle my own chaos. You just need to be more prayerful now than ever. But this your husband... he really shocked me. He’s mistreating you on purpose because he knows you’ve got nowhere to go, and that you’ll do anything to make this marriage work. Honestly, some men won’t make heaven.

Nusaybah: You know... I was even wondering. What if I told him the real truth — that I have no idea who raped me? It will sound weird and unbelievable to him. He won’t even believe me. Honestly, if I start swearing for that monster... ehh.

Sarmoroh: Don’t do that, dear. Leave him to Allah. Let’s put that aside for now. What’s more important is how to win your husband’s heart back — and I know it won’t be easy. But as your best friend, I promise to always stand by you. Okay? Just wake up for tahajjud. I’ll do the same, for your sake.

Nusaybah: Thank you so much, my love. I knew I could count on you. (she hears a sound from the door) I better go now. I think he’s back.

Sarmoroh: Alright then, no time to waste. I wish you all the best. Remember — don’t take his nasty words to heart. Don’t focus on what he does. Just give him the peace of mind he says he wants. With time, he’ll calm down. Okay? Ma’asalam.

Nusaybah: Na’am, bisalam. (she hangs up and moves to the door) Who is there? (no response) I better open it to avoid any further argument. (she opens it and finds Aminah, her face covered in tears and sweat) What are you doing here?

Aminah: (she breaks down in tears and embraces her) Sister mi...

Nusaybah: (shocked) I said, what are you doing here? And why are you crying?

Aminah: (her crying intensifies, melting Nusaybah’s heart)

Nusaybah: Please don’t make me cry too. What’s wrong? Who hurt you? (she gently moves back and closes the door) Do you miss mum? (she pats her back) It’s okay! Stop crying — you’re making me emotional now.

Aminah: (continues crying louder) Sister mi...

Nusaybah: (breaks down in tears too) Now you’re making me cry too...

Nusaybah: don't you dare take any step! ( She get on her feet) answer my question.

Aminah: you know what? I will take my leave then.

place to console eachother but see how you are treating me, why are you always

like this? Is this how agreessive you are to your husband? This won't help you

reach anywhere o, and for the question you asked, I'm a virgin a proud one, the main reason my man and I broke up was Not commit Zina and hopefully if Allah

destined us we can get back together again, which I pray so.

Nusaybah: ( sign of relief) that good you still have your pride.... ( She gently draw

her hand) come sit with me, anyway I'm sorry for yelling at you earlier... I didn't

mean to but I was just worried about you that's why? I was worried about your

future.... Remember what happened to me? I'm suffering for It now.

Aminah: ( curious ) what do you mean you are suffering for it now? It wasn't your

fault, you were a victim of rape.

Nusaybah: ( quickly cover her mouth) keep it down.... Ok what do you want to eat?

Hmmm?

Aminah: I'm fine, I will just go.... Thanks for wiping away my tears. ( As she tries

to leave)

Nusaybah: Aminah! Please keep your virginity till after marriage please, you will

understand as time goes on... Just please keep It for your husband.

Aminah: you know I would never do that, I know the home I came out from.

Nusaybah: temptation might comes your way .. please you hear?

Aminah: what is wrong? Did something happened between you and your husband?

Did he?.

Nusaybah: nothing! Nothing happened infact we are the happiest couple ever...

yourself.

Nusaybah: you too.
