SWAPPED DESIRES: EPISODE SEVENTEEN (FINALE)

 Fatimah story side

Coincidentally, Fatimah’s bed was right next to Khadijah’s. She had been lying there quietly, listening… watching everything unfold. The tears, the confessions, the pain in Khadijah’s family… it touched something deep inside her.

Before she could process it fully, her own family walked in.

Her heart skipped.

Fear crept in immediately. Her eyes filled with tears.

Then suddenly, Abdulateef rushed to her and pulled her into an embrace.

Fatimah stiffened.

She tried to pull away, but his grip tightened slightly, like he was afraid she would disappear again.

Abdulateef’s mom stepped forward, her voice soft and heavy with regret.

Abdul’s mom: My dear… I am so sorry for the pain my son has caused you. We are ready to accept you… to welcome you into our home… as our own.

Fatimah looked up, surprised. Her eyes moved to her parents… expecting anger.

But instead, she saw something she didn’t expect.

Calm.

Her mother stepped closer.

Mom: Fatimah… I’m sorry. For everything. For not listening to you… for always shouting at you.

Her voice trembled.

Mom: Please forgive me.

Fatimah blinked, stunned.

Fatimah: At least… you finally see it.

Her voice cracked.

Fatimah: I’m sorry too, Mom… for disappointing you and Dad. I never wanted this… I never wanted to be pregnant… but he…

Dad stepped forward gently.

Dad: We know now. We understand.

He glanced briefly at Abdulateef.

Dad: And he is ready to make things right.

Abdulateef moved closer again, his eyes already filled with tears.

Abdulateef: I’m sorry… I’m so sorry. I’ve been looking for you everywhere. I couldn’t reach you… I didn’t even know where you lived.

His voice broke.

Abdulateef: I know what I did was wrong… unforgivable. I forced myself on you… and I hate myself for it every day. But I love you… I truly do.

Tears rolled freely down his face.

Abdulateef: I’m ready to face any punishment… from you, from your parents. Just… please forgive me. Take care of yourself… and our baby.

He paused, then spoke softly.

Abdulateef: Will you marry me?

The room fell silent.

Fatimah froze.

Her eyes slowly moved to her parents.

They both nodded.

A quiet approval.

Her lips trembled.

Fatimah: Yes… I will.

Abdulateef’s face lit up instantly. He jumped in joy and hugged her carefully on the bed.

Dad: Ehhn, that’s enough! Don’t go and injure my future grandchild.

Laughter filled the room, light breaking through the heaviness for the first time.

Even Khadijah’s family, who had turned to watch, couldn’t help but smile through their emotions.

Khadijah story side

While everyone’s attention was on Fatimah’s side, something small… almost unnoticeable happened.

Khadijah’s finger moved.

Just slightly.

Fatimah was the first to notice.

Fatimah: Sir… your daughter just moved her finger.

Mom1: (shocked) What?

Dad: Are you sure?

Fatimah: Yes sir, I saw it.

Mom2 rushed closer.

Mom2: She moved again! I saw it!

Dad: Call the doctor!

Mom2 ran out immediately.

Mom2: Doctor! Please come!

The doctor hurried in.

Doctor: You said she moved?

Mom2: Yes, we saw it clearly.

Doctor: Please step aside.

He began examining her carefully. The room held its breath.

After a moment, he looked up and smiled.

Doctor: Congratulations, Mr. Ibrahim. Your daughter is responding to treatment. She can wake up at any moment.

Joy exploded in the room.

Tears, laughter, prayers… everything at once.

Dad: Thank you, doctor. Thank you so much!

Just then, Mansur rushed in with his parents.

Mansur: I heard… she moved?

Mom2: Yes!

Mansur: Alhamdulillahi rabbil alamin…

He turned slightly.

Mansur: These are my parents.

Greetings were exchanged warmly.

Mansur’s dad: How is our daughter-in-law? May Allah grant her complete healing.

Mansur’s mom stepped forward immediately.

Mansur’s mom: We are here to ask for your daughter’s hand in marriage.

Mansur: Mom… she hasn’t even woken up yet.

Everyone laughed softly.

Mansur’s mom: Let me speak. I believe she will wake up. My son talks about her all the time. She came to visit us once… and we loved her instantly. She is from a good home.

She smiled.

Mansur’s mom: Let me say it quickly before someone else carries her away.

More laughter filled the room.

Then slowly…

Khadijah’s eyes fluttered open.

Her vision was blurry at first.

Khadijah: (faintly) Mom…

Everyone froze… then rushed closer.

Dad: My angel! It’s me… your father.

Khadijah: Dad…

Mom1: My baby… Alhamdulillah!

She burst into tears again.

Mom2: Welcome back, my princess.

Mansur: My love… welcome back.

Khadijah looked at him and smiled weakly.

Doctor: So nobody called me this time?

Everyone laughed again.

Dad: Sorry, doctor… we were overwhelmed.

Doctor: You are a strong girl. Look at your family… they didn’t give up on you.

He continued checking her.

Doctor: And please, don’t ever try such a thing again. You’ll be discharged tomorrow.

Khadijah’s eyes filled with tears.

Dad: Why are you crying?

Khadijah: I’m happy… seeing my mom beside me… I’m the happiest person right now.

Dad held her hand tightly.

Dad: And guess what… you’ll soon marry the man you love.

Mansur’s mom stepped forward.

Mansur’s mom: My daughter… welcome back.

Mom1 moved closer, trembling.

Mom1: Khadijah… I’m sorry. For everything. The pain… the hurt… please forgive me.

Khadijah looked at her, eyes soft.

Khadijah: I love you, Mom.

That was all it took.

They all embraced, tears of healing replacing tears of pain.

Back to the storyteller

Khadijah: That was how I got married to my dream man. Today, I am a graduate… with three children.

She smiles.

Khadijah: Can you guess my age? I am 24 years old.

Fatimah: As for me… I have four children now. I didn’t continue school, but today I am one of the best fashion designers in town.

She smiles softly.

Fatimah: I also grew deeper in my faith… through Khadijah. We became friends from that hospital day.

She pauses.

Fatimah: I am 25 years old.

Both: Thank you for listening to our story. We learned from it… and we hope you did too.

As-salamu alaykum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

THE END.
