TRUE BEAUTY: EPISODE TWENTY EIGHT (FINALE)

Jamiu's Mom: Ayo, what’s wrong?

Jamiu: (clears his throat) Nothing, mum. (he gets up) Please excuse me.

Shade: (she understood why he excused himself)

Abdulhakeem: Please excuse me as well.

Chief: I should get going as well since everyone is leaving.

Abdulhakeem: No, no dad. We will be right back. In fact, I want us to have time for ourselves and enjoy our moment. Please just give us like five minutes. (he heads out)

Everyone: Okay.

Abdulhakeem: (he finds him outside but he seems to be on a call) Hey bro.

Jamiu: (he dials Summayah’s number but she doesn’t pick, then quickly cuts the call so he won’t notice) Hey.

Abdulhakeem: What’s wrong? Why did you leave like that?

Jamiu: Nothing, I just needed some fresh air, that’s all.

Abdulhakeem: (he chuckles) The house is cold, the A.C is on.

Jamiu: I just needed natural fresh air.

Abdulhakeem: Can I ask you a funny question?

Jamiu: Yeah, go ahead.

Abdulhakeem: Do you like Summayah? I mean, do you have feelings for her?

Jamiu: (shocked)

Abdulhakeem: I’m sorry to ask such a question, but please be honest with me.

Jamiu: I can’t answer that question.

Abdulhakeem: Please Ayo, please for Allah’s sake.

Jamiu: What if I do? She is yours already.

Abdulhakeem: (surprised) You love her?

Jamiu: Please don’t ask that question again.

Abdulhakeem: Then why were you so mean to her? You hurt her feelings so badly that she dislikes you so much.

Jamiu: I… I… intentionally did it because I know you will win her. It hurts a lot though, seeing us brothers fighting over one woman. Ever since I thought about that, I just had to make her dislike me. It is hard you know, very hard to let her go, but I want the feelings she had for me to die.

Abdulhakeem: (surprised) You did that for me?

Jamiu: Yeah… we are brothers, remember?

Abdulhakeem: (he notices tears about to roll down his eyes) Ayo… why do you have to hurt yourself for me when you know you love her?

Jamiu: (he uses his handkerchief to stop the tears from rolling down) Because I realised you are in love with her as well, even before you noticed your feelings, and I don’t want us to fight over a girl for the rest of our lives.

Abdulhakeem: (he becomes short of words and embraces him) I never realised you loved me from the beginning. I thought you hated me. I’m sorry for how I treated you… I love you bro. (crying)

Jamiu: (hugs him tight) I love you too brother.

Everyone: Awwwwn.

Jamiu and Abdulhakeem: (they quickly let go in surprise) What are you guys doing here?

Shade: We heard everything. That was so emotional.

Dad: Yeah.

Jamiu's Mom: Come here my two boys. (she embraces them)

Shade: Family hug. (they all embrace one another)

Curtain.

During the night

Jamiu decided to spend the night at his brother’s house.

Jamiu: Bro, what should we have for dinner?

Abdulhakeem: You know how to cook?

Jamiu: Just noodles and rice.

Abdulhakeem: I don’t even know how to do anything, that’s why I order food.

Jamiu: Let’s just eat noodles instead.

Abdulhakeem: Alright then. I have three cartons in the cabinet. I want to learn.

Jamiu: Follow the chef.

Abdulhakeem: (smiles and follows him to the kitchen)

Jamiu: Gosh, I like your kitchen. It looks so classic… I’m sure Summayah is gonna love it.

Abdulhakeem: (he smiles but says nothing as Summayah is mentioned) So let’s get started.

Jamiu: Alright, first we steam the noodles for three minutes. (demonstrating)

Shade: (enters the living room) Hello? Is anyone home? A.K… (she enters the kitchen and is surprised to see Jamiu) Jamie?

Jamiu: What’s up sis?

Shade: What is he doing here?

Abdulhakeem: Are you here to join us or to question us?

Jamiu: Do you want noodles as well?

Shade: Yes please… You can cook?

Jamiu: Yeah, why?

Shade: Thank goodness you can cook, unlike some people.

Abdulhakeem: Just face me, okay?

Shade: Anyway Jamie, what should I help you with?

Jamiu: Bro, do you have vegetables, eggs and fish?

Abdulhakeem: Not really.

Shade: Don’t mind him, they are in the fridge. I bought some yesterday.

Abdulhakeem: Oh sorry…

Shade: (faces Jamiu) Look bro, whatever you need in this house, ask me. Even the owner doesn’t know the house more than I do.

Abdulhakeem: The house is yours as well, remember? (his phone rings) I’m gonna take this call, please excuse me.

Shade: Hmmmm…

Abdulhakeem: (he leaves the kitchen and goes to his room, lies on the bed and picks the call) Hey baby.

Summayah: Assalam alaykum.

Abdulhakeem: Oh, wa alaykum salam. How are you my love?

Summayah: I’m fine, and you?

Abdulhakeem: I’m fine as well. Guess what?

Summayah: What is it?

Abdulhakeem: I did what you asked me to do, the family meeting. It went great. In fact, Jamiu is in my house right now, and I never realised he could sacrifice his love for me.

Summayah: I don’t understand sir.

Abdulhakeem: Well, never mind. Anyway, how was your day? I miss you so much.

Summayah: I called to check why I didn’t see you today.

Abdulhakeem: Do you miss me?

Summayah: Maybe…

Abdulhakeem: That’s a yes. I’m glad you miss me.

Summayah: Uhmm… there is something I want to tell you tonight, and I hope I won’t regret saying it for the rest of my life.

Abdulhakeem: (worried) I hope there is no problem? You sound so serious.

Summayah: Nothing serious.

Abdulhakeem: Okay then, I’m listening.

Summayah: Oh my God, I don’t know how to say it… I’m so nervous right now.

Abdulhakeem: (smiling) Come on, talk to me baby.

Summayah: Uhmm… (she takes a deep breath) I just want to say… I… I love you.

Abdulhakeem: (amazed) Are you serious?

Summayah: Yeah.

Abdulhakeem: (he jumps up in joy) You have no idea how long I have waited for this day! I love you so much Summayah! I love you!

Summayah: That’s enough, I love you too.

Abdulhakeem: (kissing his phone) Muuah… today is the best day of my life!

Summayah: (laughs) Are you that excited?

Abdulhakeem: Yes I am, baby! You know what, we shall talk later tonight so we can discuss better, hmm?

Summayah: I was going to say the same thing because I’m cooking. I just ran outside to make the call. Bye.

Abdulhakeem: Bye, I love you.

Summayah: Bye.

Abdulhakeem: Say it now!

Summayah: I love you too. (ends call)

Abdulhakeem: I love you more!

(He jumps up again, not noticing his siblings were watching him)

Abdulhakeem: Yes! Finally!

Shade: (shaking her head) Seriously? Is this how much you love this girl?

Jamiu: Look at him… behaving like a child. Let’s go back to the kitchen sis.

Shade: Yeah, you are right. (they head back)

Abdulhakeem: Eh! Guys wait for me!

Curtain.

The next beautiful day

Summayah: Maami, where are you going?

Adewunmi: (smiling) I want to pay your uncle a visit. I’m coming.

Summayah: Can I come with you?

Adewunmi: No, I promise I won’t stay long, okay? (she heads out)

Summayah: (goes back inside and finds her sister wearing her khimar) Sister mi, where are you going as well?

Suliyah: Don’t mind me jare… I’m going to the madrasat.

Summayah: It’s too early na, it’s in the evening.

Suliyah: Yes, but I need to go early. (wearing her shoes)

Summayah: Okay, can I come with you?

Suliyah: Ahh, follow me? No oh. Just stay at home, I will be right back. See you later. (she leaves)

Summayah: I don’t understand people in this house oh… (goes back inside) Maybe I should go to Alia’s house… but she said she is going for adult class oh. Where will I go now? (her phone rings) God will bless you, it’s my prince charming. As if he knows I’m lonely. (picks call) Assalam alaykum.

Abdulhakeem: Wa alaykum salam my love. I’m outside your house.

Summayah: Really?

Abdulhakeem: But make sure you dress well. I will be waiting for you.

Summayah: Why dress well? Are you taking me out?

Abdulhakeem: Yes baby.

Summayah: (amazed) Are you serious? Okay, I’m coming now.

Abdulhakeem: Take your time. (ends call)

Summayah: (holds her chest) I can’t believe he is taking me out… oh my God! And now I need my sister to help me dress up, she has gone out. What am I going to wear? My hijab is not even ironed. Maybe I should wear Aunt Suliyah’s khimar.

Curtain.

At a fancy restaurant

Abdulhakeem opens the door for her.

Abdulhakeem: My lady.

Summayah: (smiles) Thank you sir.

Abdulhakeem: (holds her hand as they enter, people stare and she feels shy) I’m here with you, don’t be scared okay? (he pulls out a chair for her)

Summayah: Thank you sir…

Abdulhakeem: Waiter please.

Waiter: Yes sir.

Abdulhakeem: As planned, please.

Summayah: Is that a name of food?

Abdulhakeem: (smiles) You are funny… anyway give me a second, I need to use the restroom.

Summayah: Okay. (she admires the restaurant, notices people smiling at her, some recording her, then suddenly sees her mum, sister, Alia, Shade, Jamiu and their family. She stands up shocked) What happened? Maami? So this is where you are all coming to? Aunt Suliyah? What’s going on here?

Abdulhakeem: (on one knee behind her, holding a ring) My love.

Summayah: (turns quickly, shocked, covers her mouth) Sir?

Abdulhakeem: I know I will be the luckiest man in the world to spend the rest of my life with you. You are the most amazing woman I have ever met. Please my love, will you marry me?

Summayah: (in tears, seeing everyone emotional and smiling) Yes I do… I will marry you… I will marry you! (crying)

Abdulhakeem: (places the ring on her finger and hugs her tightly as everyone claps)

Suliyah: Let go of her oh! Enough of hugging!
