FATIMAH’S CHALLENGES : EPISODE TWENTY NINE

At night – Fatimah and Blessing in the room gisting

Fatimah: But babe, what you did is really wrong and a big sin. All you have to do is ask Allah for forgiveness and never go back to that sinful life again.

Aishah: Okay, I hear you. So, tell me about your life since you left that rich people’s house. I’m still wondering what brought you back here after all you’ve been through.

Fatimah: Well… I don’t know exactly, but I feel more connected to this house than anywhere else. I think Dad never wanted me out of this home, even though he’s not alive. May Allah forgive his sins and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.

Aishah: Ameen, oh.

Fatimah: (looking sad)

Aishah: What’s wrong? Come on, talk to me.

Fatimah: Could you believe I found my biological mother?

Aishah: Are you serious? When? Where?

Grace: (tries to enter Fatimah’s room but pauses as she overhears)

Fatimah: (explains everything to Aishah) I couldn’t believe my mom had been a maid, locked in a dungeon since I was born. People can be so cruel.

Aishah: No wonder! So you’re a half-cast? I knew it! You can’t be this beautiful for nothing!

Fatimah: What… what are you saying?

Aishah: Don’t you see? Your dad is abroad! Your dad’s Oyinbo! Wow!

Fatimah: And so? He left my mom to suffer for many years.

Aishah: Gosh, babe, I envy you now! Imagine if my dad was Oyinbo… ahhh! Men are in trouble!

Fatimah: I guess you also envy how much I was brutally raped and mistreated by your mom!

Aishah: No! I’m so sorry about your past.

Fatimah: No man—or father—can be like your dad. But you don’t know his worth until he leaves this world. He’s the best thing that has ever happened to me.

Aishah: And me too.

Fatimah: I need to sleep early so I can go to work tomorrow.

Aishah: Work? What kind of work are you doing?

Fatimah: I’m a cleaner.

Aishah: Why? Why that type of work?

Fatimah: That’s the only job I could get, and Mum’s shop has run down. I need to work so we can eat.

Aishah: How much are you paid?

Fatimah: 15k monthly.

Aishah: That’s too small. Okay, no problem—I’ll also find work, or be a salesgirl tomorrow. Together with Abdulrahman, you don’t have to do it alone.

Fatimah: That’s why I love you. Come here. (They embrace)

Grace: (takes a deep breath and heads back to her room)

(Curtain)

The next morning…

---

At her cleaning company

Secretary: Have you cleaned my boss’s office?

Fatimah: No, ma, that’s what I’m about to do.

Secretary: Please do it quickly; the boss will be here soon.

Fatimah: Okay, I’ll do it right away. (She carries her mopping bucket straight to the office.)

2 minutes later

Secretary: (on her feet) Morning, sir.

Jamiu: Morning, dear. (Heads to his office.)

Secretary: (quickly following) Sorry, sir, the cleaner is still cleaning your office.

Jamiu: No problem. You can go back to your place.

Secretary: Okay, sir.

Jamiu: (enters the office and heads to his desk; Fatimah turns her back to him, mopping) Hmmmm… (clears throat)

Fatimah: (quickly turns to greet him, shocked to realize Jamiu is the owner; the mop falls from her hands. She quickly picks it up, trying to continue mopping.)

Jamiu: (in shock) Fa… Fatimah! (Moves toward her; she pretends not to hear) Fatimah! (Trying to touch her but restrains himself) Please, turn to me. (Gently takes the mop from her hands.)

Fatimah: Please give me the mop. Let me do my work and leave.

Jamiu: I am not losing you again—not this time. Please, I beg you with the name of Allah: come with me to the cafeteria so we can talk properly. I promise I won’t inconvenience you.

Fatimah: (takes a deep breath) You promise?

Jamiu: Yes! Please.

Fatimah: Okay… lead the way.

Jamiu: thank you so much, ( he lead the way while the secretary watch how

they passes her front).

Fatimah: ( she have a seat) what is it?.

Jamiu: please Fatimah, how do you want me to prove to you that my feelings for you is real?

Fatimah: oh really? Mr real feeling? I know you are after my beauty, you and I barely talk, I can't believe you fell in love with me just like that? You see this beauty you are in love with? Ruined my life, so stop pretending to be real, I know you are after my body.

Jamiu: I swear with the name of Allah am not after your body! I have looked everywhere for you since you left Lukman's house, I want to marry you, I want to spend the rest of my life with you, am not after you beauty trust me.

Fatimah: you see this girl sitting in front of you? She was raped by two men

when she was 11years old, she was maltreated by her so called mom, do

Fatimah: (wiping her tears) You still want me?

Jamiu: Yes, my love. I love you for who you are. Even if you weren’t beautiful, I would still love you. Please… let me see your guardians.

Fatimah: I don’t know for now. I need some time to think clearly. I have to go since you don’t want me working under you.

Jamiu: Wait! Before you go, please take this phone so I can reach you anytime. It’s my second phone—SIM and everything is inside.

Fatimah: I… I can’t take it.

Jamiu: Please… for the sake of Allah!

Fatimah: For the sake of Allah, right?

Jamiu: Yes! Thank you so much.

Fatimah: I really need to get going now.

Jamiu: Let me accompany you.
